Decarbonising aviation is one of the greatest challenges of our age. Cambridge’s Whittle Laboratory, one of the world’s leading jet engine and power generation research laboratories, has partnered with Rolls-Royce for over 40 years, delivering a range of industrial products and working on aircraft powered by electricity, hydrogen and sustainable aviation fuel. The company develops its future engines and technologies at its Derby site, which also has the largest concentration of Rolls-Royce employees in the UK. The partnership has also pioneered Rapid Technology Development, speeding up the time it takes to get ideas into industrial environments from years to weeks. Rolls-Royce has modelled its University Technology Centre global network on this partnership.
