Predicting and responding to future biosecurity threats to the UK

Future pandemics, bioterrorism, invasive species – how well are we prepared for future threats to UK biosecurity? To respond quickly to a threat, policymakers need accessible evidence-based information to test assumptions and pursue the most sensible response. To address this, Cambridge’s Biosecurity Research Initiative (BioRISC) scans the horizon for looming threats, develops tools to link scientists with policymakers, and provides information to help the government plan strategically. The initiative collaborates closely with the Centre for the Study of Existential Risk, which focuses on global catastrophic threats including pandemics and ecological collapse.
