When Tom Hook was looking for fresh ideas as then Director of Policy & Participation in the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham, he decided to look beyond local government to university experts and academic research. Taking up a Policy Fellowship at Cambridge’s Centre for Science and Policy from 2017 to 2019 gave him new connections, took the Borough forward to a place where it is recognised nationally for good practice in developing community cohesion and led to successful bids for central government support.
