Developing a COVID-19 ‘point-of-care’ diagnostic used in NHS hospitals

A rapid diagnostic test for COVID-19 developed by University of Cambridge spin-out company Diagnostics in the Real World is one of the primary rapid tests used for point-of-care testing in the NHS. There are currently around 1,000 machines used in over 80 NHS hospitals across the UK. They are used to screen patients on admission to hospital emergency departments or maternity wards, test patients prior to surgery or discharge to a care home, and test staff to reduce disruption to services or enable return to front-line services.
