Being overweight or obese is the main modifiable risk factor for type 2 diabetes but the genetic and environmental factors that predict who will be affected are not completely understood. For decades, the Fenland Study has been collecting information about the health, behaviour and environment of thousands of volunteers in Cambridgeshire at a unique level of detail, including body composition and fitness, in order to inform health advice and government policies.
