Cambridge’s expertise in using cutting-edge genome sequencing to track infectious diseases played a vital role in the fight against SARS-CoV-2. The COVID-19 Genomics UK Consortium (COG-UK), led by Sharon Peacock, delivered large-scale genome sequencing of the virus and its variants to public health agencies, the NHS and UK government. This proved critical to guide government decisions for disease control and vaccine roll-out during the pandemic.
