Inspiring a love of nature

Robert Macfarlane’s book The Lost Words (2017), created with the artist Jackie Morris, comprises 20 ‘spell’ poems on species from everyday nature and has captured the imagination of children, teachers, musicians, artists and actors across the UK. Fundraising campaigns have resulted in the donation of the book to all schools in Scotland, Greater London, 21 English counties and three Welsh counties, as well as the mass participation of primary and secondary schools in learning ‘nature literacy’. The book has become the basis for interior re-decoration of three hospitals, including the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Stanmore, London, and it’s partner-book, The Lost Spells, is now a touring family musical.
