Pubs, playgrounds, cafes, cinemas, museums and leisure centres are all examples of the ‘social infrastructure’ that plug people into their communities and generate powerful feelings of local identity. Researchers at the Bennett Institute have shown how vital these are for providing economic, social and civic value across the UK’s regions, cities and towns. Their findings provide the evidence for government investment in social infrastructure to rebalance the nation’s prospects.
