Assessing the impact of low traffic neighbourhoods

The UK population’s lack of physical activity directly contributes to 1 in 6 deaths and costs £7.4 billion a year. Cambridge researchers are involved in a project to evaluate whether Low Traffic Neighbourhoods (LTNs) – which stop people in motor vehicles cutting through residential streets – can improve population health. They are undertaking a mixed-methods study of benefits, harms and experiences as new LTNs are implemented in six London boroughs.
