Taking our museums to the people

Cambridge’s Fitzwilliam Museum took a series of ‘pop-up’ museums based on their internationally significant collection of Egyptian coffins to community venues in Wisbech, a Fenland town in an area of the UK with high levels of social and economic deprivation. Curators and conservators shared their research – through real museum objects, craft replicas and hands-on activities – with local communities in venues such as DIY stores, pubs and supermarkets.
