The number of food allergy alerts, in which a product is recalled because of risk to allergic consumers, has been high in the UK. Cambridge researchers showed that safety could be improved by integrating incentives for manufacturers into food traceability technology. They worked with the Food Standards Agency and food businesses across the UK, such as PepsiCo, to design an incentive-based food traceability technology which was tested with EF Group.
