Boosting the sustainability of salmon farming

Scotland’s salmon industry is the third largest worldwide, valued at over £1 billion, and is the UK’s largest food export by value. Researchers have calculated that removing wild-caught fish from the feed and using only fish by-products would deliver significant nutritional and sustainability gains to global food stocks and the Scottish industry. They estimate 3.7 million tonnes of fish could be left in the sea and global annual seafood production could increase by 6.1 million tonnes.
