Sustaining churches in modern society

Beyond ‘hatching, matching and dispatching’, what role do churches play? With declining church attendance, this has become an urgent question for organisations like the Diocese of Ely, with over 330 churches spread across East Anglia. Working with the Diocese, researchers carried out a survey of the churches to understand their social value, their financial status, and how both can be developed and sustained. The findings will support the Diocesan Strategy for growth and have been turned into local outcomes for individual communities and free online resources for how churches can connect with the wider population.
