Uncovering lost histories of Nazi persecution

The Channel Islands were the only British territory to be occupied by the Germans during the Second World War. A decade of research by Gilly Carr has uncovered the harrowing experiences of islanders persecuted by the Nazis, leading to changed perceptions of the occupation and enriching the heritage landscape through museum exhibitions, memorials, commemorations and revised war narratives. Carr won the 2020 European Heritage Prize for her work.
